How to become a christian

<< Frontpage

Becoming a Christian involves making a life-changing commitment to be a follower of Jesus Christ.  The commitment is serious and requires sincerity of heart, but after those two ingredients are present, the rest is easy.

Every person has been born into a sinful world, and Romans 3:23 tells us that every person is a sinner:  "For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God."  Jesus has overcome the sin of the world as mentioned in 2 Corinthians 5:21:  "God made Him [Jesus] who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in Him we might become the righteousness of God."

The Bible says in Ephesians 2:8-9 that "For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith - and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God - not by works, so that no one can boast."  Romans 10:9-10 also tells us "If you confess with your mouth, 'Jesus is Lord,' and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.  For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved."

By reading these Scriptures, we know that we are all sinful people, every person has sinned.  We also know that God has provided a way for us to escape the life of sin by sending Jesus in our place.  We read in Ephesians that to become a Christian we must, by faith, accept the grace given to us by Jesus.  Also, the book of Romans told us that we must believe in our hearts that God raised Jesus from the dead, and confess with our mouth that 'Jesus is Lord.'

If you would like to make that life-changing commitment now to follow Christ and become a Christian, pray this prayer:

"Father, I thank you for the grace you have given to me through your Son, Jesus.  I accept that grace and
confess that I am a sinner in need of your grace.  I believe that your Word is true that Jesus died for my sins and you raised Him from the dead.  I ask you to forgive me of my sins and come into my heart.  I confess that you are Lord, Jesus.  In Jesus Name, Amen."

How can you know that this decision is real and will last?  The answer is found in  John 1:12:  "Yet to all who received Him [Jesus], to those who believed in His name, He gave the right to become children of God."  By believing in Jesus and receiving Him as your Saviour, you are changed from a sinner and are now a child of God.
